Terms of service
Plain-language terms for using the TaskFlow app and this website. The important sentence is this one: keep your own backups, because nobody but you holds a copy of your task list.
Please read. TaskFlow stores your tasks only on your device. If your device is lost, wiped, damaged or the app is uninstalled, your tasks are gone and we cannot restore them. Take regular exports (Settings → Data → Export JSON) if the data matters to you.
1. Agreement to these terms
These terms govern your use of the TaskFlow application for Android (package com.taskflow) and this website. By downloading, installing or using TaskFlow, you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not install or use the app — and, since it is free and account-free, simply uninstalling it ends the relationship entirely.
"We", "us" and "the TaskFlow project" mean the developers of TaskFlow. "You" means the person using the app or site.
2. What you are licensed to do
You are granted a personal, worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive licence to install and use TaskFlow on devices you own or control, for any lawful purpose, including commercial and professional work.
You may:
- install the app on as many of your own Android devices as you like;
- use it for personal, business, educational or charitable work;
- build the app from its source for your own use, subject to the licences of the open-source components it depends on;
- share the unmodified installer with others, provided you do not charge for it or present it as your own product or an official store listing.
You may not:
- sell, rent, sublicense or commercially redistribute the app as a product;
- remove or obscure copyright, licence or attribution notices;
- use the TaskFlow name or branding in a way that suggests an official endorsement, partnership or store presence that does not exist;
- distribute a modified build while presenting it as the official TaskFlow app.
3. Your data is your responsibility
TaskFlow does not have a server and does not hold a copy of your data. Consequently:
- you are solely responsible for the content you enter into the app;
- you are responsible for backing it up. The app provides JSON and CSV export precisely so that you can;
- we cannot recover lost tasks, projects, labels, attachments or settings, and we cannot reset a forgotten device lock or decrypt a device;
- if you uninstall the app, or use "Delete all data", the data is gone immediately and permanently.
This is the trade-off that makes the app private and instant. It is stated here rather than buried because it is the term most likely to affect you in practice.
4. Acceptable use
Do not use TaskFlow to store or process material that is unlawful where you are, to infringe anyone's rights, or to break the law in any other way. Because the app stores data locally and transmits nothing, your use is your own affair — but the responsibility for it remains yours.
You are also responsible for complying with any rules that apply to the device you install it on, such as an employer's policy on sideloaded applications.
5. Distribution and installation
TaskFlow is distributed as an Android package (APK) directly from this website rather than through an app store. That means:
- you install it at your own discretion, having satisfied yourself that sideloading is acceptable on your device;
- there is no store-mediated update mechanism. Updates are manual and optional;
- you should verify that the file you downloaded matches the published SHA-256 checksum on the download page if you want certainty about its integrity;
- debug builds, if you build them yourself, use a different package name and are treated by Android as a separate application.
Release builds are currently signed with a development key so that the build succeeds without a privately held signing key. Nothing about that affects the app's behaviour, but you should not treat the installer as equivalent to a store-signed release if that distinction matters to your risk assessment.
6. No warranty
TaskFlow is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranty of any kind, whether express, implied or statutory, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, quiet enjoyment and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, free of harmful components, or that defects will be corrected.
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of implied warranties, so parts of this section may not apply to you. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits any right you have that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited, including mandatory consumer rights.
7. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits, revenue, goodwill or business opportunity, arising out of or relating to your use of, or inability to use, TaskFlow or this website.
This includes, without limitation, loss of tasks or attachments resulting from device failure, loss or theft of a device, accidental deletion, emptying Trash, using "Delete all data", uninstalling the app, a failed import or export, or an operating-system upgrade.
Where liability cannot lawfully be excluded, our total aggregate liability is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you paid for the app, which is zero, or (b) the minimum amount required by applicable law.
8. Intellectual property and open source
The TaskFlow name, its visual design, its textual content and the original source code of the application are the property of the TaskFlow project. The app is built on open-source Android and Kotlin libraries, each used under its own licence; those licences continue to apply to those components, and nothing in these terms restricts the rights they grant you.
The content of this website — descriptions, illustrations and layout — is provided for the purpose of describing the app. Please do not republish it wholesale as your own product documentation.
9. Privacy
Our handling of information is described in the privacy policy, which forms part of these terms. In summary: the app collects nothing, transmits nothing and requires no account.
10. Changes to the app and to these terms
We may release new versions of the app with different features, and may update these terms to match. When the terms change, the "last updated" date above changes and the revised version is published on this page. Continuing to use a version of the app after an update to these terms means you accept the revised terms.
Because there is no account or subscription, we cannot notify you individually of changes; this page is the notice.
11. Termination
You may stop using TaskFlow at any time by uninstalling it, which also removes all data it stored. We may discontinue distribution of the app or this website at any time. Because the app runs entirely on your device and requires no service from us, discontinuing distribution does not disable an app you have already installed.
12. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws applicable at the operator's principal place of business, without regard to conflict-of-law provisions. Nothing in this section deprives you of the protection of the mandatory consumer law of the country in which you reside, and any dispute may also be brought before the courts competent in your place of residence where the law grants you that right.
Before starting any formal proceeding, please write to us — most problems with a free, offline app are resolved by an email.
